The Great American 4th of July Fireworks

"A World Class Event"

Wednesday, July 4, 2001  -  State College, Pa

Good Day,

As residents of Central Pennsylvania and proud Americans, my wife Kay and I and our family have taken special pride in organizing and presenting The Great American 4th of July Fireworks. In this, its tenth year, The Great American 4th of July Fireworks has become one of the top 4th of July celebrations in the Nation and one of the top fireworks displays in the world. Thanks to a willing cadre of community minded volunteers and businesses an event of this caliber is possible in “a small town in Central Pennsylvania.” Please take note of the businesses that help pay the bills and make a point to thank them, and in particularly thank radio station WBUS and WJAC-TV for their contributions to the success of the event.

The Great American 4th of July Fireworks, a community wide patriotic celebration of our nation’s birth is sponsored in part by WBUS, “the BUS” at 93.7 FM, Pepsi Cola, Restek Corporation, The Centre Region Council of Governments, Happy, CBICC, Penn State University, Affinity Mortgage, Centre County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Sovereign Bank, Giant Foods, Student Book Store, Rider Auto, Videon Central, Geisinger Medical Group, Galen and Nancy Dreibelbis, Joel Confer Auto Outlet, Downtown State College Partnership, Omega Bank, Penn Anesthesia Associates, ReMax Centre Realty and WJAC-TV, Channel 6. The event features a variety of activities that take place in the parking lot adjacent to Beaver Stadium and inside The Bryce Jordan Center on the campus of The Pennsylvania State University. Additionally, the Bryce Jordan Center will be featuring “The Family Playground” as well as food venues in an air-conditioned environment.

The sponsors generously underwrite the major expenses for this evening’s entertainment. Additional costs are paid with the help of many businesses and community groups and your generous donations. For details on this evening’s activities, please listen to WBUS at 93.7 on your FM radio. “The BUS” will provide live coverage of all the festivities, including the special fireworks music soundtrack, and will update you on last minute changes.

The appended map of the event area and the schedule of events will help you locate where and when activities are taking place. Restrooms and emergency medical facilities are indicated on the map. Feel free to participate in the many activities both inside and outside the Jordan Center. We trust you will have a wonderful time whether partaking of the Jordan Center’s indoor Family Playground with its festive 4th of July activities and food, or the outdoor events which include music, games, food, crafts, Project Kid Care, live entertainment on the Main Stage, our patriotic sing-a-long and other fun activities.

Without exception, this evening’s fireworks display is one of the largest, most sophisticated 4th of July fireworks shows in the world. However, the quality that makes this display unique among the “big” displays is the special choreography that sets the fireworks to music. To experience this dramatic relationship between the music and fireworks, listen to the special music soundtrack, while viewing the fireworks, by tuning your FM radio to WBUS at 93.7. The fireworks will actually be synchronized to the music. You won’t believe your eyes and ears.

Thanks for celebrating our nation’s birthday with Kay and me. It’s always nice to have a few hundred thousand friends over for an evening of fun.
